¡°Please pray for Rev. Kyung Lim Shin and
her new ministry at our church!¡±
Rev. Chan Young Jang delivered his farewell sermon at
our church last Sunday. With tears and broken hearts, we said our farewells and
wished God¡¯s blessings upon him after his ministry of 4 years and 7 months. We never
expected him to leave us so early, but we are thankful for his devoted services
and love for us. Rev. Jang concluded his ministry by expressing his thanks for
a ¡®really beautiful time here¡¯, and I have been genuinely touched by your
constant prayers and steadfast love for him during his long medical leave.
Now we are making the preparations for a new Senior
Pastor for our church who will start his ministry here on July 1stof this year. Bishop Bard of Michigan Conference of United Methodist Church has
appointed Rev. Kyung Lim Shin to be our interim Senior Pastor for the next 5
months. As you know, Rev. Shin, a member of Washington/Baltimore Conference of
UMC and a pastor for the Washington KUMC (Rev. Seung Woo Lee is the Senior
Pastor), has been working for the Wesley Theological Seminary as the Vice President.
She has visited us from time to time and delivered sermons, so all of you are
familiar with her.
On this Friday, February 9, 2018, she will start her
ministry officially as the interim Senior Pastor of our church. She will serve
the Wesley Theological Seminary in Washington, D.C. during the week days, and
on weekends she will serve our church as our Senior Pastor until the new Senior
Pastor arrives here.
I want to request for your prayers for Rev. Shin and
her new ministry here for the next 5 months and for our church¡¯s growth and strong
leap forward under the new and challenging circumstances.
January of 2018 has gone by already, and we are in the
month of February. Having survived the harsh winter, now is a good time to
check the status of faith and get fired up by the Holy Spirit. Soon we will be
in the Lent season when we commemorate the sufferings and death of Lord Jesus for
our salvation. I would like to urge you to participate in our program of ¡®Reading
4 Gospels through during the Lent season¡¯, and to meditate on the meaning of
the cross by following the footsteps of Jesus Christ. May the love and blessings
of the Lord be upon all of you!
